Gio is a 27-year old firefighter living in the 24th century. His expertise trades between tasks, as an independent hire, of getting rid of ghosts in sections of the city that need renovation in the night city of Sctaria. When he's called for a job at a library in the middle of downtown, he realizes he may be in over his head as the library has opened a realm for more ghosts to spread through parts of the city that need renovation and hijack many of the cities hi-tech operations. Where are they coming from, and what can be done to stop them? And why do city officials seem unwilling to settle even as some ghosts issue vague warnings about the city's future? Teaming up with a mousy haired cyborg librarian, Gio realizes he needs all the help he can get as the ongoing conflict reveals matters that can't always be resolved by his weapons of choice, especially with the city's survival at stake.

Nina is captured by parbeing man. He plans to turn her into his pet. He knows she won't go down without a fight, but he's not prepared for how much 'fight' she has packed in her small body. His new pet leaks into every area of his life, changing things in ways he could never have imagined. Parbeings are the new and improved apex predators of Earth. Created from gene editing, they are the perfect humans, so perfect that they are no longer even considered human. *** Content Warning: The protagonist of this story is a victim of abuse. I do not condone the actions of the antagonist *** Chapter 1 extract: "Hey Alex. Get over here. I've got something for you," he calls into his collar radio. I reach the end of the alley and turn to face my foe once again, but he remains where he is, still blocking my path but not approaching either. New plan: when he gets close, duck under his arms and make a run for it. Now I just have to wait. Before a minute has even passed, another armoured soldier appears and joins the first. This just keeps getting worse. How am I supposed to dodge past two of them? "What do you want now?" the new soldier grumbles. This one must be Alex. "Look at this cute little human I found. She's feisty. I think she's perfect for you." I glare at them. "I don't want a pet human. That's your disgusting fetish, and I'll have no part in it." "Oh come on Captain," the first soldier whines, "You don't have to fuck her, just train her to be obedient. Surely you can control one measly wild human? You are a captain after all. When you're done, you can just get rid of her, like I do with my humans." What the fuck? For a brief moment my fear is replaced by anger. Who do they think they are, talking about me like I'm some kind of wild animal? "Get the fuck away from me! You freaks!" I screech. The first soldier just flashes an evil grin. They don't budge. "Are you just going to let her talk to you like that?" he goads Alex. (Complete. 70k words.)

In a future where technology and mysticism intertwine, humanity has unlocked a gateway to the spirit realm. In a bustling cyberpunk metropolis governed by Sorumeito, a secretive organization promises a utopia where souls are carefully selected for reincarnation to achieve global harmony. Dr. Alma, a pioneering scientist, unveils a startling truth: Sorumeito has been manipulating the reincarnation process, unwittingly funneling purgatory spirits back into the mortal coil. Crime surges as these troubled souls wreak havoc across the cityscape. When Dr. Alma mysteriously disappears, her daughter, Emilia, driven by a quest for truth and justice, delves deep into the neon-lit underbelly of the city. Armed with forbidden knowledge and aided by unlikely allies-a rogue technomancer and a streetwise informant-she unravels a conspiracy that threatens not only the fabric of their society but the balance between the worlds of the living and the dead. As Emilia navigates the shadowy realms of both flesh and spirit, she must confront Sorumeito's enigmatic enforcers, unearth long-buried family secrets, and ultimately confront the true architects of a world where the line between salvation and damnation blurs. In a high-stakes tale of redemption and revolution, "Sorumeito's Veil" is a gripping fusion of cyberpunk grit and supernatural intrigue, where the fate of humanity hinges on the unraveling of mysteries that transcend the boundaries of life and death. I have submitted this story to Royal Roads as well (11/16/24)

Signal To Noise

7 parte Kumpleto

A flash of light, a hiss of static, and a city of 50,000 became a ghost town in an instant. The area was cordoned off, eye witnesses were taken away in black helicopters, never to be seen again, and officially, the city no longer exists. The only people left inside the cordon are Curi, Crypto, and Tech, three members of an expedition into the Zone who can't remember who sent them, why they're exploring the Zone, or even their real names. The only thing they can remember is they are tracking a radio signal coming from the center of the Zone. A signal that can't possibly be human. But the Zone isn't ready to give up all of its secrets. And it is more dangerous than any of them realize. [A story for the Literary Lounge Gen 3 Contest]
