Dark Jungles are echoed with times of ancients and beasts from before the don of man. One such beast is the Bereaved Knight, a large human shaped figure clad in heavy plate armor and a tower shield, his flesh forever lost, armor forever stained in brimstone and suit or ash, his eyes red and cold are all that peer from the ancient helm. It carries a mighty falchion dull front half and a wicked sharpness on the other with a large blade catch for executing by decapitation. I know these things Because I witnessed this mighty demon, and that was one of the terrors in the Lands of the Rainbow Serpent.

And because of that pact, our village is protected for the next year, under the demon's watchful eyes. No one knows what happens to those who the demon chooses, but there's a lot of theories about it. One is that the demon eats or absorbs those who are chosen - another, that it kills them. But this year, I'm the one who's chosen. I get to meet the demon I've feared since I was a child, and now that I'm 24, and am considered an adult, I could have left the village behind. But I didn't. Something inside me told me to stay. Now, I'm going to die. I just know it. I can't leave now, or run away, because the town would be unprotected for a whole year, and that's where my family lives.
