In a dystopian world, everything is about appearance. You have to look perfect, act perfect. All so that one day, you can find a suitable partner and have perfect children. 17 year old Hally has grown up living like that forever, and she hates it. Everyone is fake, and she doesn't want to spend her life waiting for romance to find her. But there is a special day once a year called the Match Making Ceremony. On this day, the gods choose 5 boys, and 1 girl. They will rise into the air and will be taken to a famous temple, awaiting thousands of adoring fans and paparazzi. Over 3 months, the girl will have to choose which boy she will marry. They will conceive a child, and that child will be the "savior" or a leader for the next generation. The gods do this to keep the well being if their community. But latley, the Match Making Ceremony has no meaning. It's just an excuse to throw parties, to have more celebrities to worship, and it is a source of entertainment. These 3 months of romance and heart break appear on television for everyone to see. It has been dying for several years now, but the effects are finally starting to come about. The sun has even been changing color. The government has been working on a plan to save a portion of the human population for quite some time. There are so many problems with the sun dying. The oceans will evaporate from the inevitable explosion, everything will be dark and nothing will be able to grow, the world will freeze over, everything will be destroyed. The sun is also giving off toxic radiation while it dies, making the world especially dangerous. The government's solution to this problem is to build a radiation proof dome over a large area. There will be synthetic heat, light, and seasons. The cost to enter such an oasis is very expensive. It is hundreds of thousands of dollars per ticket. However, there is another way to get in. Once the sun dies many will die with it. It might even vaporize part of the planet in its blast. No one knows for sure. But the world will need a larger population. You can earn your place in the dome if you agree to have a child to save the human race. This obviously only applies to women. Now remember Cadence? He is biologically female.
