The town of Pine Hollow sat nestled at the edge of the forest, its streets lined with old brick buildings and flickering streetlights. To the east, the dense, towering trees stretched endlessly, a sea of shadows that seemed alive at night. The people of Pine Hollow knew better than to wander into the forest after dark, but no one ever said why. It was just one of those unspoken rules. For 18-year-old Evelyn "Evie" Carter, the forest was a mystery she couldn't resist. She'd grown up on the outskirts of town, her backyard blending seamlessly into the woods.
