Set before the time of the most despair inducing accident in the world, in the time where the students of the mutual killing game were just classmates and students attending Hope's Peak Academy. 

Toko Fukawa, known as the ultimate writing prodigy, had plenty of secrets, keeps to herself and has rarely any friends besides her classmates who hardly pay attention to her. One boy in particular catches her eye quite often. She tried gaining his approval and praise only to be shot down in such horrendous ways.

Byakuya Togami, known as the ultimate affluent prodigy, is loaded and has no time for common people such as his classmates, keeps to himself a doesn't have a whole lot of friends either. One girl who acts as a pest continues to bother him constantly which forces him to drown her out.
