Jason had nights like this down to a science. It was routine. His stepfather, James Quinn, all magical being and "can do no wrong" persona, would get angry. First it was breaking glasses, then it became more physical. Jason tried to fight back and protect his mother, but it was getting out of hand. It was routine, like he said. Jumping out his window, calling the police, and running off to Cassie's house, his childhood best friend. That was what he did. Running was his specialty, but how many times was he willing to run before the people he loved suffered?

Jason was just feeling okay. He no longer felt like bashing someone's skull in just because they annoyed him just a little too long. Then he found a kid with glowing green eyes that was freezing to the touch. Honestly, he didn't know what he was doing when he took them in. But God be damned if anyone thinks they're just going to take his baby and not see the end of a glowing hot gun barrel. (This is being copied over from my ao3 account, hope you enjoy it!)
