Romance
Hayden Hail isn't a virgin, she's had more than her fair share of alcoholic beverages, and her addiction to cigarettes give her the ability to smoke several packs a day. She's no angel and she never will be. With no Dad and a Mother who's less than loving, she's left broken by a boy who didn't love her enough to keep himself alive. Derek Hayes is supposed to be the bad boy. In reality he's innocent and kind, but everyone outside of a select few individuals see a man who is cold and apathetic. Derek has his own problems, he's the youngest in a family who plays house, but then he finds a certain girl on the side of an old railroad that no one else seems to remember. He sees the cigarette in her hand, and the emotions on her face. He sees the empty blue packs piled at her feet, and the shaking of her feeble hands. He sees her messy, knotted hair, her smudged make up, her tired, puffy eyes, her broken little smile, and he can't help but fall in love. And Hayden knows that she's broken, but when a boy finds her smoking on the side of the old railroad, he accepts her, and she slowly begins to learn that it's not her that's broken. Violet Hayes never expected her senior year to start with loss. Losing her mother to cancer was heartbreaking, but being sent away to London by a father who couldn't bear to look at her? That was something else entirely. Thrown into the home of her father's best friend, she finds herself living with the Montgomery brothers-Theo, the easygoing and protective one, and Mason, the arrogant, brooding, gorgeous one who makes it painfully clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Mason Montgomery has everything-looks, money, power. But beneath the smirks and confidence, he's spent years battling demons he refuses to name. When Violet walks into his life, soft-spoken yet undeniably strong, she's just another rich American girl-or so he thinks. He's determined to push her away, but she sees right through him. And the more he tries to fight it, the more he finds himself breaking all his own rules. What starts as heated arguments and endless teasing quickly turns into something neither of them can ignore. But just as Violet begins to feel like she belongs somewhere, Mason's world unravels-his mother's dark past comes back to haunt him, his rage spirals out of control, and the walls he built so high start to crumble. When a dangerous encounter at a party pushes them to their true breaking point, Mason is forced to face what he's known all along-Violet isn't just another girl. She's the one person who sees him. And he'll do anything to keep her safe, even if it means fighting against everything he's ever believed. Love was never supposed to be in the equation. But sometimes, the people who are the most broken are the ones worth fighting for the most.
