Charlotte Lawson retails the time of when she was eleven, growing up in Vietnam war era Oklahoma on the goat farm her mother shared with her aunt, whom she learns isn’t really her aunt. The farm is run with the help of cantankerous, telling-it-like-it-is, eighty-two year-old Grandma Evee, whom she knows isn’t her grandmother, but is as close to being family as the rest of the eclectic mix that are in her life. Things start to unravel with the return of her cousin, Daniel, paralyzed from the war. As Charlotte starts to come of age, she begins to see the world in a whole other light, as she learns that things are not always as they seem or ever were, as she thought they appeared to be.

She has a gift, a gift that she had received from the very man that she had trusted the most. Her gift, being able to bring joy with her singing. She got it from her father, the very man that had taught her all the stuff that she knew about animals, singing, and instruments. Meet Ember Castille, 18 year old female with a knack for horses. She believes that people should care about animals and not hurt them. She, also, believes in God the Father. However, things started changing when her father got sick with cancer. Ember started to pull away from the Lord and fully blamed him for the death of her father. Her father was her rock after all, and she learned everything she could from him. Join Ember on her journey back to God the Father with the help of a mysterious boy that seemed to appear the moment that she needed someone's help. Life's a journey.
