The East Side of Detroit is home of the city's most prominent forms of violence known to man, where advanced decisions have life or death motives. Visible crimes, broken fences, yellow grass, pregnant teenagers, kids playing outside with the fire hydrant, indoor furniture outside and even the nosey elders who stay outside gossiping . This impoverished, neglected neighborhood hold people who are not family by blood, but family by circumstance.

The East Side is known to chew people up and spit them out. This novel focuses on Cambria, a teacher , who aspires to change the mindset of every misguided preteen in Detroit. Monroe, who seeks for guidance after the death of her father. Phoenix, heir to the thrown, who struggle not to become a product of his environment. Sebastian, who fights to make a better life for himself and his daughter. Including the people surrounding them. In the end all of them seek for redemption as they quake and rattle in sin.
