Arranged marriages are nearly extinct unless your parents are in the mob. Unfortunately for Sparrow her parents aren't just in the mob, they lead it.

Against her wishes they arrange a marriage between her and a rival mob in order to form an alliance. She was prepared to do her duty, give up her life and happiness to ensure the family's flourishing, but that was before she met him.

Jasper had given up hope of finding his mate before Edward found his. Then Bella came and hope stirred in his chest, it fizzled out when he attacked her.

To him, it was his fault the family had to move and it was his punishment that he hadn't found his mate yet. It was him.

But then he saw her.

He saw her and the smell of her consumed him in the best way possible and then she laughed. The sound that came from her mouth shouldn't have sent shivers up his spine, but oh how it did.

It was euphoric until her emotions hit him. As complex as they were he could tell two things.

One: She was unhappy in a way a girl like her should never be unhappy.

And two: She was afraid
