Hannah is very distraught over the recent death of her boyfriend, Evan, and -- as a coping mechanism and a comfort -- she texts him every day at 7:34, no matter the circumstance. 

Keegan is very distraught, as well. Not only is he juggling the struggles of his own treacherous life, but he has been receiving a countless amount of texts from an unknown girl to her dead boyfriend, Evan (or, as she is unaware of, Keegan) about all of her problems.

When the two meet and, inevitably, fall for each other, they learn that it's okay to be broken, it's worth the risk to love, and what it's like to be understood.
