"Why do you do that? You don't talk about yourself, ever. You push kind people away and you just refuse to open up or let anyone love or care about you? Why won't you let me care about you?" he asks.
He wants to know why I am the way I am. The truth is, I don't know why I am this way either. I don't know why I push everyone away and to be honest, I don't want him to leave.
I stay quiet. He brings his finger to my cheek, wiping away the tear I didn't know escaped my eye. He looks me in the eyes. "You don't have to hide from me, Layla," he tells me softly.
I move my head away from his hand. I open my mouth but nothing comes out. I look back into his hazel eyes and he's staring at me so intensely that I feel nervous under his gaze. He already knows too much.
"There's nothing to hide. I don't know what you're talking about," I say. Then I turn around and walk away.
"Layla-" he calls after me. But I keep walking.
I'm scared to let you in because my life is an absolute mess that you don't want to be a part of.
Layla has a hard time dealing with her dark past and loving herself like she should. Although she may seem a happy girl to everyone, Jeremy sees right through her facade and sees the vulnerable and beautiful girl that she is.
Jeremy has it all. The friends, the grades, the girls and the scholarships. But no one actually knows anything about his life. And let me tell you; it's not as perfect as it seems.
