Gartner forecasts the Multi cloud market revenue will grow by 17.3% and cross the 200 billion dollar mark. Currently employees at large enterprises (over 1,000 employees) claim that 81% of these companies have multi-cloud strategies. Which I feel is very promising for organizations and their goal to achieve a stable cloud strategy.
But the questions really is, did we understand the multi cloud strategy correctly. As per definition, it's using multiple cloud partners/vendors in a single architecture or solution. So essentially if we use email with one cloud provider and storage with a different provider I don't think we can call ourselves Multi Cloud. Then there are confusions around hybrid cloud or cloud portability which is all dragged into the same discussion. A hybrid cloud strategy or a cloud native application aspiring to become cloud portable, doesn't necessarily talk about Multi Cloud. Yes a Multi cloud strategy can be hybrid, or a cloud portable solution can be deployed in a multi cloud environment but one has to look all of these in together to get it right.
