Christian, Earl of Amberly, has suffered for the last several years through a less than savory arranged marriage. After the death of his wife during childbirth, he decides to take his household and retreat to Amberly Hall. Though he is in mourning, the idea of an eligible Earl is too much for the ladies of the Ton to pass by and his manor is overrun by mothers and daughters looking for a husband. Will he once again bow to the pressures of Society and take a titled wife or will he open his eyes to other possibilities?

Emma traveled to London with her infant son to visit her mother in the Earl of Amberly's townhouse when she learns of her husband's death in the war. Newly widowed, she is the best option to become a wet nurse to the Earl's child. Though bitter and cold, she still sees flashes of the boy she remembered growing up with. Can she maintain her distance from the man she once admired? Will she be able to reconcile the guilt she feels from being interested in a man so soon after her husband's passing?

When a dark secret and unwelcomed visitors remind them of their stations, will they choose duty or love?

Octavia Sorrell, the Countess of Kendall, had been forced into marriage by her father and brother when she was only fifteen years old. Just after her sixteenth birthday, she gave birth to twins; Charles and Olivia. Two years later, after Lord Kendall's scandalous death, and fearing the gossip it had caused her, she began to live the life of a recluse, only visiting her closest neighbours, Sir Freddie Sommerville and his wife and old school friend, Katie. However, when Charles was ten years old and woefully underprepared for the vigours of an English aristocratic education at Eton, Freddie, who was also her son's guardian persuades her to employ a tutor for her son, to prepare him for school. Captain Alexander Fallbrook, after returning a hero from the battle of Waterloo, was living the life of a libertine. His family, embarrassed by his latest exploits, decided that the best course of action was to send him far away from London. His mother, the Countess of Huntingdon, heard of a position as a tutor for a young lad in Yorkshire, far away from the temptations of town, and she encouraged him to apply for the position. When Alex arrived in Yorkshire, he was somewhat taken by the beautiful young Countess and decided that his time in the country may not be as dull as he first expected. However, as he became better acquainted with the young widow, he recognised a fellow soul in torment. Can Alex overcome four years of guilt, or will he be unable to let go of the past to embrace his future?
