Luna was always there for Goku for a long time. He thought of her as his mother. She didnt like it at first, but soon comes to love the title. 

When Goku got married to Chi-Chi, she thought it was time for him to protect the ones he loved. So she promised she would come back in the future.

When he was offered an opportunity to live with the genius family of a certain woman who had help create a bizarre machine that would enhance the capabilities of a saiyan through gravity, he seized the occasion to progress deeper in his training and once he was done, he'll beat Kakarot and rule the world.
