Twenty-five years ago the Vardeshi came to Earth. Then they vanished without a trace. Graduate student Avery Alcott always knew they would return. When they do, she's the only one who can speak their language. She's quickly recruited to join the crew of an 11-man starship on a one-year mission into the depths of space. Avery leaps at the chance to leave behind everything she's ever known. Wearing a Vardeshi uniform, adapting to their culture, following their orders, she's as close to being one of them as she'll ever be. But there's more to interstellar diplomacy than knowing the right words to say. And shedding her identity turns out to be harder than she expected. When her ship, its crew, and the fragile human-Vardeshi alliance are threatened, Avery's humanity-the very thing putting her at risk-just might be the one thing that can save her.

When Mandy loses her job, she thinks she’s hit rock bottom – until her plane is swallowed by a strange storm that sends her and everyone else on board 10,000 years into the future. At first, she thinks the scary world is nothing more than a bad dream. The war-torn Earth is unrecognizable. Black fog blocks the sun, and the oceans are dry. Even worse: the planet is inhabited by half-human, half-alien creatures dying from a mysterious disease. Horrified at the thought of spending her life here, she clings to the knowledge that there’s one man who can open the star gate to send her home. As the Naki prince who controls the star gate, Akkadi gets first choice of any human female that makes her way through the star gate. Only by breeding with purebred humans from the past can his race hope to remain immune to the disease and hopefully, develop an eventual cure. With shrinking resources and a raging battle for the human planet, dutiful, commanding Akkadi is less than thrilled at the idea of trying to figure out Mandy, a woman he views as wild with neither discipline nor respect for someone in his position. He’s ready to write her off, when she offers him something too tempting to resist: her body for the chance to convince him by any means possible to send her home. Neither intends for the arrangement to be permanent or to fall for the other. Only when Mandy learns Akkadi’s secret and walks away does he realize he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her – even if it means losing his war.

Miranda's boss has asked the impossible of her reporters: find a story worthy of the front page or lose your job. She vows she's going to try her best. Per her boss's suggestion, she takes a walk downtown to see what she can see. She has no idea it will change her life forever. David is from the planet Alura and a part of a law enforcement group called Division X. He's a Watcher, one who guards the maximum-security prison, Faltraxa. When a prisoner, responsible for two counts of genocide, escapes, he goes after him. The prisoner's destination? Earth. When they first meet, Miranda witnesses something amazing and unexplainable, a stroke of luck. This would sell stories. David is mortified when he finds out she saw him using his alien powers and is terrified he'll be exposed. He doesn't have time to deal with anything or anyone but Quasar. Nevertheless, they end up working together. The more time they spend together, the closer they become. There's nothing like a hunt for a killer to a spark a little intergalactic romance.
