While season 2 of The Dragon Prince was incredible, I was a little disappointed that Runaan wasn't in it (though I am still hopeful). But seeing Viren in that cell was not only hard to watch at times, but also 'confirm' a little head-canon on what 'would have' happened to Runaan. But anyways, there are other head-canon about Aaravos' mirror/ Aaravos' backstory, Runaan's actual age, his relation with Rayla, and how he 'knows' the Queen of the Dragons. The story was in my mind before season 2, and I hope you'll enjoy this little twist. May contains spoilers and other subjects that's not suitable to a younger audience. Reader's discretion is advised.

Callum feels a strange presence and decides that with 4 years left before Aaravos returns, they needed to find a way to defeat him for good as quickly as possible. Ezran initially disagrees with his brother's reckless choice, but decides to help by calling someone familiar to the mission with Terry. While Callum, Rayla, Soren and Corvos go ahead in search of the moon's primary rock that Aaravos had created 3 years ago. This is a spoiler-free summary of Book 1. The Dragon Prince - Book 1: Cold War
In this alternative storyline, set two years after the events in the show, best friends Callum and Rayla decide to continue working together to stop a war that has already been set in motion. Rayla has discovered a mysterious relative named Zalmai in the sunfire kingdom who may hold the secret to her parents disappearance. Rayla convinces Callum to join her because Zalmai is also a world renown Sunfire sage and could teach the young mage new magical abilities. In this story, Virin was never able to escape his prison in Katolis and has slowly gone mad by Aaravos' cruel whispers. As for Rayla and Callum, well... they were never quite able to figure out their relationship in Season 3 and so they stayed friends and let the angst build for two agonizing years!
