Amara Laveau has had the perfect life. She's Ivy League bound and looking forward to college next year. Even though her mother walked out on her and her father seven years ago, she's let that dark part of her life go. But one night when a house fire consumes her father in a freak accident she can't explain, she's forced to leave her beloved home in Deercreek, Indiana for New Orleans and find comfort from a family she never knew existed. On her way to her new home, Amara meets Zachary DiLioncourt, a beautiful boy consumed with tattoos, dark hair and piercing blue eyes that see into her soul. She falls instantly, but soon finds that this very boy is all wrong for her in more ways than one. Both the Laveaus and DiLioncourts have been feuding forever and Amara soon finds that the power of Voodoo and Shadow Walking (dark Voodoo) runs through both families and is to blame.
