Some people call flashes a blessing, others call it an advantage given to the unworthy. Pain is only in the eyes of the beholder, I suppose. Elliott Owens has been blessed with the flashes, or rather, cursed. Flashes of his past life, triggered by familiar objects or people. Thousands of people, living with the flashes, scattered across the world, being collected like stones by the goverment for testing.
Those with flashes are classified into three groups, similar to how you classify animals. The cures, the experiments, the runaways. Elliott is a runaway, of course, did you think he would willingly become a goverment pawn?
Years of hiding and testing later, a cure was discovered. A cure that could stop the flashes, but start something worse. Something much, much worse. And as the world becomes a mess of fear and chaos, the only few survivors left consists of a guilty scientist and a stupidly ambitious runaway.
❝You are all still here because of an uncanny will to survive.❞
Solving the Maze was meant to be the end. No more tests. No more puzzles. They thought that by escaping the Maze that they'd been stuck in for two years, they could go back to their old lives. Find their families. But, they aren't aware of the world they would be going back to.
The world is dying. A wasteland. Struck by Solar Flares and falling to a virus that is driving the population of the world to madness. A virus named 'The Flare'. The happy ending the Gladers had hoped for is non existent, and they are thrown into another challenge.
Enter the Scorch, trek through dangerous conditions, face the Cranks and get to the Safe Haven to find the cure to the virus that is killing the world.
The Maze was one thing, the Scorch is another.
