Katrine has always had high expectations for herself, which tends to come with living on an island populated with people who gain abilities like teleporting, manipulating the elements, etc in their teenage years. Katrine is anxious to discover her own ability, especially since she's running out of time. Her life quickly spirals out of control, however, after her best friend manifests as an Allurer: a forbidden ability.

When the truth about Katrine's own lack of an ability is exposed, her mother sends her to the mainland, where she stumbles across Susanna, a girl struggling to understand her new-found powers and who has the potential to be an incredible asset to Katrine.
