Romeo is different. However, in Romeo's case, this difference is dangerous, and possibly deadly. He is the only son of the Lord Montague, and he is expected to uphold not only tradition, but the family name.
After a bloody skirmish and heartfelt threat from the Prince of Verona, Lord Montague and Lord Capulet agree that the best way to end their warring is to become one as a family. Meaning Romeo is now promised to Juliet, the only heir of the Capulet household.
