A compelling story that documents the experiences of five college sophomores: Jewel, Shaun, Dirk, Lavender, and Coba. This story explores the modern social and racial complexities of being black in higher education. With the illustrious predominantly white institute (PWI), Carnie University and the distinguished historically black college (HBCU) Nickelson College as their stages, this group of friends battles racial oppression, overcoming self doubt, and claiming self reliance as they search for their own meanings of black American Exceptionalism, black classism, and most importantly, Hip-Hop as our inheritance through their respective callings.

PLEASE READ FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORE YEAR FIRST! To get a rainbow, you must go through rainstorms, and they saw a multitude of precipitation. Just before the sun could come out, the dark clouds had to clear up first. Instead, they grew larger. Completely free from college and doing his own thing, Shai Carter was heading down a smooth road of comfortability. He had his AAU team up and running, and his players were elite. He was the manager at the YMCA and was helping his community every chance that he could. Family was long gone and he didn't have to deal with their drama. He had a stunning wife who he loved dearly and a baby on the way. Things seemed to be going wonderful, as he wanted, until it wasn't. He was supposed to be in San Francisco playing for the Warriors but he wasn't ready for the commitment. To make matters worse, his past was making a wrap around to throw him off course. He was at the point where nothing could get under his skin, but the rain was still unbearable. Even the bad storms that refused to stop. From birth, her life had been nothing other than rainbows and sunshines. She had her slight storm and the rain poured every now and then. But there were still some clouds lingering around through her day with droplets of rain. Entering her junior year of college, Dess had finally found the appropriate time to get her life on track. Healed from the passing of her father, her journey to new beginnings was on. She was working, had a wonderful and caring husband, and a baby. Everything was just as good as it was before even with the slight changes in precipitation every now and then. But would it stay that way? A lingering question sheshe to deal with while the thunderstorms and tornadoes came her way. And as for Shamar, his life has been sunny days and rainbows. He had everything he needed from millions in his pockets to half-naked girls in his home. Yet, he wanted one thing more than others; Shai. His happiness. His joy. And his life. 08/24-

ATTENTION: YOU MUST READ FRESHMEN YEAR FIRST! Freshly new nineteen year old, Shai Carter, is back with even more madness. Entering his sophomore year of college, Shai returns with an "I don't care" attitude that surely raises some eyebrows and stirs up unnecessary conflict. Matters become worse when his mother, Allison, tries to find her way back into his life. He didn't know her true intentions for being back or whether she was going to stay around for once. He did know one thing surely, he wasn't going to allow anyone or anything interrupt his ongoing peace of mind. He was staying true to himself, avoiding all drama and bullcrap that people could possibly pull on him. That included the ones he loved. But drama seems to always find him. She didn't think her second year would be like this but it was something. Eighteen year old, Desdemona Young, came back with a fresh new demeanor and confidence. She was claiming this year as hers with no drama. At least, that's what she thought. With the drastically new unpleasant attitudes and people that's been lingering around, Dess wasn't sure if she could handle relationships, school, and her social life all at once. There was one thing she made sure of, life had its ups and downs, but it's up to the person to continue the fight. Would she be willingly to continue when all things fail? Model. Wife. Entrepreneur. Allison Carter-Williams had many talents and skills. But, one that she lacked was being a mother. Missing majority of Shai's life placed a barrier between mother and son that was too hard to piece back together. But with free time this new year, she was using it wisely. Somewhat. With the thoughts of wanting to patch things up with her son, Allison is met with multiple never-ending issues and halts in her mission. She just wanted one thing...a relationship with her child, but that seemed too impossible with secrets and lies she's still holding to. October 18, 2023 - August 22, 2024
