Ahmaelia Jones, more commonly known as AJ, is just your average teenage girl. Except for the minor detail that almost her whole family was either murdered or taken from her at a young age.

She lives with the only family she has left: a strict and cruel grandmother who has taken everything from her. She hides behind a facade, in school and at home. Only two of her four best friends know what she is truly like. The five of them are gradually ripped from their lives. First is Mia, her closest friend and confident. It all goes downhill from there.
