We have found a successful formula for what is supposed to be a deadly, bite-transferable disease after many days of hard work. Testing on a live human test subject begins today.

January 22nd, 2519, Day 28 of Project Z.O.M.B.I.

After only one week, subject has gone through an unnaturally high temperature fever - one that would kill the average man. Further testing required.

Feburary 17th, 2519, Day 48 of Project Z.O.M.B.I.

Test subject's behavior has drastically changed. Increases in aggressive and violent behavior have been reported. She has bitten a chunk of flesh out of the arm of one of the other scientists, sending him into shock.

Feburary 20th, 2519, Day 51 of Project Z.O.M.B.I.

The infected scientist's fever has come and gone much faster than the test subject's did. The moment he woke up from his fever he immediately started trying to attack other scientists. Starting testing on an antidote.

March 3rd, 2519, Day 64 of Project Z.O.M.B.I.

Both the test subject and the infected scientist have escaped. Security feeds have shown that the door had not shut all the way, allowing the two to push the door open. Despite their slow, limping movements, they were able to successfully climb the ten-foot fences surrounding the premises. We will be attempting to recapture and confine the infection from spreading

February 19th, 2018 He is test subject Three-eleven-thirteen. Ellie for short. He's human. Remarkable. He can breathe freely, no tubes. His heart has adapted to beating on it's own. He opened his eyes yesterday, we looked at one another. He looked at me, truly looked at me. My daughter, Ripley, tried speaking with him, but he didn't understand. I will have her keep working with him. He will speak. February 23rd, 2018 He is standing. His bones are still fragile, but he is gaining muscle rapidly. This is incredible progress in such little time. Everything is going as planned, though his fingernails are black. They weren't black yesterday. March 13th, 2018 Ellie attacked Ripley last night. He will be kept in restraints from now on. March 27th, 2018 My God he is strong. The mysterious blackness that had formed in his fingernails is now flowing in his veins. Whatever this black liquid is, it's possessing him. April 4th, 2018 He bit me last night. I can feel the mystery in my veins. What is this? April 5th, 2018 Test subject three-eleven-thirteen, Ellie, will no longer be a patient of mine. I have locked him up in a cell in my lab. I fear him. He will stay in that cell for God knows how long until he starves to death. I am a coward. April 6th, 2018 I can't tolerate this. I think I'm truly losing it. My memories, my spirit, I feel them being eaten by this black virus. I have to end this tonight. I have to end myself tonight. I have too. Ripley, my sweet daughter, I love you baby. I am sorry for creating that abomination. I am so sorry.
A Different Virus - Laura's Story by CrystalScherer

This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? Is this fleeting shadow something that can help her or could this mysterious figure be even more dangerous than the zombies themselves? ---------------------- Ranked #1 Apr 10, 2018 (A huge thank you to all who read and voted!) This story is copyright and built from my own imagination. This book was a special request from someone who helped me a lot. This viewpoint has less action than the original. The cover was made by @All_AboutAssymetry. A huge thanks to her! Copyright September 2016. All Rights Reserved. Readers may not copy, alter, or steal this story. The Virus Within (Original rough draft) by CrystalScherer
144 parts Complete
Back by popular request! The 2017 rough draft of The Virus Within! (Caution: Contains massive plotholes that were fixed in the polished The Virus Within Series. Grammar issues are present, particularly missing commas.) What do you do when you are one of the infected? The virus in my blood is trying to steal my humanity. It alters my very thoughts and reactions. It taunts me by tempting me with desires that it planted in my brain. These bloodthirsty desires would lead to my demise if I ever gave in. I have more in common with the zombies than with humans at this point. Even the fallen zombies accept me as one of their own. Blood is required to retain my grip on sanity, but the sweet-smelling blood from humans is a short path to madness. Human blood is to be avoided at all costs. Humankind around the world was driven close to extinction by the sudden appearance of the zombies, yet small groups of survivors constantly manage to appear and put my control to the test. -------------------------- This is a standalone zombie book. It has nothing to do with A Different Virus. I wanted to try a book with an easily irritated main character and a nutcase secondary character. This book has a slightly darker outlook at the beginning than my usual stories, but it has some humor further along. Definitely not a horror story, although it has its share of action. 4 updates a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday! Copyright April 2017. All Rights Reserved. "As far back as I can remember, I've been surrounded by water. The salt in the air even now makes it hard to breath, forcing me to squint. Sand clings to every inch of me, caking my pants and shoes. The wind from the ocean picks my hair up, sending it blowing back towards the multi-colored houses lining the shore line. *** 'Quinn, don't panic,' Lexi says through gritted teeth. She holds fistfuls of my shirt now, and I hear the rubber soles of her shoes squeaking. 'Too late,' I whine, grabbing the barbed wire in a last desperate effort to regain some balance. The razor sharp blades cut into my palms, making me jump again. Lexi sucks in air and loses her grip on me. I hold my breath and close my eyes, feeling the wind cradle me from all sides as I fall at about twenty-four miles per hour, considering the height of the wall and my weight. Now, I wish I was surrounded by water." South of Compound 4, another compound exists. Within the wall of Compound 5, children are trained and tested for perfection through the Intelligence Exam, a test that every student takes during their sixteenth year. Pass, and you stay within the compound. Fail, and you are sent to another compound. It's common knowledge that they are building a perfect population to remain when the rest of the world falls to the Virus. Yet, what happens when Quinn faces the threat of Compound 5, a short blonde girl whose name he can't pronounce, and begins to question everything he's ever been taught, pushing the limits of the system and his own comfort zone? When a student receives the compound's first ever perfect IE score, a storm makes its way in from the ocean. Can Q unravel the secrets held within the walls, or will he lead his family and friends to a war they can't win against a woman who seems to be triumphing against all odds? Selected is the sequel to Immune, found on my profile. Record Ranking: #25 in Science Fiction

The Z Contingency

81 parts Complete

The zombie apocalypse is coming. A scientist at the CDC has that terrifying realization when infected victims start displaying the symptoms predicted by his model. A virus responsible for hemorrhagic fevers is mutating into something that zombifies its victims instead of killing them. Realizing the only hope is to get ahead of it, he sets out to create a vaccine, but to create a vaccine he needs a sample of the virus. He tries to enlist the aid of a colleague to help him create the very virus he wants to eradicate, but she refuses on ethical grounds. Witnessing the horrific transformation of an infected patient forces her to reconsider, but before they can start working on a vaccine, their virus samples are stolen. As they criss-cross the country on a hunt for a cure, the paths of the two scientists cross those of a shadow organization on a secret mission, and a loose-knit network of zombie prepper groups whose loyalties are unclear. I am editing The Z Contingency for an updated edition, and I thought Wattpad would be a good platform to get improvements suggested by readers. The first edition of the book is already available for the Kindle, Nook, and Kobo at major online resellers, and is also at Smashwords.
