"What do you want?" I ask again, his expression hardened.

"I want to be your friend." He said his expression softening as he said it.

"I'm not interested." I said blandly.

"See Adekemi, I really really like you and I would like to be your boyfriend but i know you aren't ready so let's be friends first." He said.

"See, I can't date you." I said.

"But why, I have been chasing you for 2 years now and I know for a fact that there's no guy anywhere so why can't you just give me a chance." I said.

"You want to know why? you want to know why huh?" I ask again.

"Yes, I really do want to know. You are driving me crazy and I don't understand you. For two years now, I have been confused. Always wondering why and why. I just want to make you happy." He said looking tired and I felt bad and yet sad for him.

"It's because we are different. We live in two different words. You are rich, I'm not. We will never be compatible, I don't want a situation where I will be hurt. I can't afford to be hurt or lose focus. I have to build a better life for myself. I need to be able to handle my burden first before venturing into another person's own." I said my voice cracking as a year drops.

"Then let me help you, let me help you share your burden. Let me make you happy, let me help you reach your dreams." He said as tears fall from my eyes.

"I'm sorry but I can't, I just can't." I said, tears falling freely from my eyes as I ran home. His expression of hurt and disappointment forever engraved in my brain.
