I took many steps back, retreating from the source of toxicity, suppressing a pseudo feeling of guilt but being grasped by its hands so easily I could simply lunge at my boyfriend and tell him everything would be all right, that he had done the right thing, and that I was so proud of him.
But as much as I wished him to, he wasn't a child anymore, and I had ceased to be the girl he idealized.
