Avery hates the Nightshade family for what she considers to be perfectly good reasons. Their political views, for one. Their monopoly over the government for another. And yet when one of the Nightshade kids runs into Avery at a shop and begs her to pretend to be dating, somehow Avery ends up getting a lot closer to the family than she's ever wanted.

Unless it was to punch one of them, of course.
