(This is a short story I wrote while in high school. The writing isn't my best, but I still enjoy the plot and want to keep this available for whoever may be interested in my old work.)

Ellen Collins may not have the best house or job, but she has her family. Unfortunately, her small family is slowly being torn apart. Between both parents working long hours and leaving their young daughter with a baby-sitter, no one is happy. Fate could be kind and help them get back on their feet, but fate can be a cruel mistress; something this family will learn all too soon.

They all initially agree to help James, and also want to make some good money from the party. But, there's one girl who wants to see it all burn up in flames. Sammi, a mean, catty, popular girl who has the hots for James, tries everything in her power to ruin Emma. After a bunch of run ins with the both of them, Sammi makes up a rumor about James, insinuating it was Emma who started it. James watches Emma embarrass herself on multiple different occasions, And still wont explain why he is upset with her. But, after Sammi gets a football player to put a cockroach in Emma's hair in class, Emma runs out to leave. She then runs into James, who Offers to give her a ride home. He then tells her he fiund out it was Sammi who started the rumor. And to make it up to her, he brings her to see her favorite series, 'Raven-Man' at the Drive-in theatre.Complete
