In the year 3099, the united government powers have come up with a way to ensure a peaceful and honest society. At 8 weeks, a chip is inserted into every child, which prevents the individual from acting on any nefarious thoughts or ideas. At the ages 10 and 16 all children are tested to make sure they cannot resist the chip. Individuals with the ability to resist the chip are executed as they are seen as a potential threat to their peaceful society; these individuals are called Mavericks.

Felicity (Flick) Larsen is a Maverick who managed to pass her first test, however now she has turned 16 which means she must take her second and last standardised test without getting caught.
