When Adam is saved from monsters by a strange man in a coat he is shown a secret world, a world full of gods and monsters, angels and demons, a world at war.
He is given an ultimatum, head to another dimension and gain power, or never be safe again. Guided by a soldier, a lunatic in a magic hat, and a spider (by adoption) he is taken to meet the Laughing One, a strange creature who seeks to teach him to reach his potential.
But beset by the emotionless Legate, the violent Ursas, the mysterious Kings Man and their army of monsters, and without even a clear idea of what's going on how can he hope to survive in this strange new world?
And even if he does reach the end of his path, will he recognise himself in the Laughing Man he is becoming?

The world is dying. Heaven and Hell have broken and collapsed, creating a post-apocalyptic landscape that is part purgatory, part platonic world of ideas, blighted by the horrors of the human mind. The few that survived with their sanity somewhat intact have locked themselves into warded cities, but their protections are feeble and often ineffective. The Order that united them is long gone, broken into factions known only by the sins for which they have fallen. The Houses that protected them are crumbling, falling into ruin as their members were culled down by angels and demons, as well as their own mad quest to save the world; the Pilgrimage, a vain attempt to steal into Eden and murder God himself. Soon, only the Scions will remain. Those that were left not due to merit, but because they were the last choice for being heroes. Those whose memories and minds are as damaged and eaten through as their world. Those who agreed to take on the mysterious Archons within their bodies and, through that contract, had ancient relics and rituals passed down to them. The archangel named Gabriel explains why she has these dreams and why she must lead the fight against evil, but first she must confront her mother and grandmother. They turn her life upside when she finds out her family knew. A fight ensued, and she runs away and encounters the demons that wish to kill her. Gabriel rescues her, and the need to train her for a battle which her ancestors have fought for the side of good every one-hundred years. Throughout her ordeal she encounters creatures which want to kill her, and monster that accept her into their family. She finds love and comfort in the enemy's armies and fight her brother to save the world. Can she have the fortitude to save the world from total chaos, or does she save her love and allow the world to seep into darkness?Complete
the Gods among us
Adam Park is less than average. An overweight, underachieving 16 year old, who's life is drastically changed when he discovers a secret world hidden in plain sight. Not accepted in his old world, Adam tries to make a place for himself in the new. This novel is my first Young Adult novel, and my first Urban Fantasy.
