Hazel Montgomery is a girl who has one friend, no parents, no one but Cal(gay best friend she met at the music store), her young aunt Sara, her 10 year old brother, Dan(uncle), and herself. Hazel's parents died 4 years ago and it haunts her everyday, especially with the words from the "mean girls" (Fay, Britney, and Natalia)all in her head. Hazel lives with her aunt and Grey(her brother). Hazel walks everyday of school with her head down and hair over her face, except for when Cal decides she's too beautiful to have her face covered. She believes that this last year of high school will be different and she and Cal can go far away from Fallbrooke High school in the small town she lives in and Cal's homophobic parents. She believes that if she just stays focusing on her music and photography, this year will go by smoothly, but that was until the school's "bad boy," Asher Hawthorne, comes back to town after being gone "somewhere" for 4 years and decides to take an interest in Hazel. With Asher back in town, tons of information on the real reason her parents died and deadly secrets start to rise.
