This is a short story about my Dungeons and Dragons character Shava Liadon, a half-elf bard. The songs in Shava's repertoire were sundry and varied; they spoke of adventurers she had encountered and told stories of the great heroes of old. The music was her livelihood, yes, but it was also woven into the very fibers of her soul. She didn't just play the music, she breathed it; she drank it in like a sweet wine. Even before Shava became schooled in the bardic ways - before she could use Thunderwave to wipe out a swarm of kobolds or wield her rapier in ferocious battle - Shava loved her music, and no song warmed her heart more to sing than that of the girl who danced with swords...
