Miles from the nearest major city, live a different group of Shadowhunters. Their home is called the West Lake Institute where multiple Nephilim families police the rural communities of western Michigan.
15 year old Madlyn Carpenter and her father are assigned to aid the families of West Lake and expect ignorant and undertrained rednecks overrun with demons and other Downworlders. The father and daughter are surprised to find the Shadowhunters honest and kind, preferring friendships with Downworlders over strained alliances. Immediately the pair are accepted into the tight-knit families and join in their policing.
However, their arrival brings in new challenges unusual to the Shadowhunting community. For example: a young Mundane from a strong, fundamentalist Christian family begins the Ascension Training to become a Shadowhunters in order to wed his Nephilim fiancée. Next, a parabati Ceremony is put on hold when one of the teens involved finds a better partner in Madlyn. Then, upon hearing of the untraditional practicing of the Accords and Law, the Clave sends in the conventional and bigoted Finchly Redstone to supervise West Lake. All the while, different species are being created from Downworlders that never interbreed, including a child born of a sterile Warlock.
As dangerous problems arise both in the Institute, Mundane, and Downworld; loyalties will be questioned and facts long believed will become obsolete while fiction becomes reality.

Then all of a sudden, she is thrusted into a world war of two worlds, the Shadowhunters world which was also the human one, and the Demon one. Then Clary finds out that she has an older sister, Ren Fairchild, who has the same powers she has, except more powerful. Ren is 3 years older then Clary and remembers the day she was dumped by their mother, like it was yesterday. Ren is clearly an able fighter, but can she fight a war, keep her little sister safe as well as her adopted siblings, and still uphold the oath she made to the Clave, while still saving the mother that abandoned her? But next to Blake there is a mysterious boy named Elijah Blackthorn who seems to hate everything and everybody. Stuck between a friend and a love interest, Aleksa is confronted with even greater problems. The Council brings the charge against her, that she wasn't present, when Annabeth Kingsmill died. They blame Aleksa for her death. While Aleksa tries everything to get over the loss of her parabatai and to get back to the institute in Montreal, she has to struggle with the Council and them wanting her to visit the City of Bones until the hearing. But her new won friends help her and Aleksa soon finds out the real reason she was held out of the investigations considering Annabeth's death and sent to Idris. The story takes place in an imagined academy, mentioned in the TMI books by Cassie. Since I love academies I had to write about a story happening here. But the story also sets in various places over the world and reunites some familiar places from the TMI books with new impressions. New characters are introduced and also some old and well-known characters will appear during the happenings.Complete
