In 1870, Abraham Jones is off to visit his brother in California. Along the way Jones and his friend Eustace are convicted for a murder in Kansas that they didn't commit. They escape the law while wanted for three thousand dollars and attempt to flee to Mexico. Two posses, one consisting of the sheriff and three deputies and the other a group of bounty hunters go after them.
