As children in a small village in Sierra Leone, my friends and I dreamed of traveling the world like the missionaries who opened our village school. As a British subject, I dreamed of walking the streets of London. I imagined myself in the United States visiting the places where the cowboy movies were made. No matter the destination, the key to my dreams was exiting my circumstances and stepping into into a world of opportunity, the likes of which my village has never seen.
