Lady Merreth of Sable House  is on the run, seeking escape from a the consequences of brutal murder she may or may not have committed.  Her political enemies have no doubt of her guilt, though, and intend to see her executed.  

With no where to hide within the Matriarchy, she flees to the western frontier where a brutal war with the steppe clans is being waged.   There, cast out of the nobility, and forced to keep company with the commoners with which the Matriarchy wages its war, all she needs to do is survive.  

Her enemies within the nobility want her dead, the commoners are suspicious of her, and the steppe clans are closing in.   How hard could it be?

Things start to spiral out of control. Lacey starts to feel a deep attraction to the intense werewolf sent to guard her. He looks at her like no one has before, as if she was something of value and worth that was beautiful to behold. She is stuck between a deadly desire and her promise to King Mercutio for marriage. But her as body starts to fail on her, and having no magick to speak of, Lacey knows time is running out and that things aren't always what they seem. She begins to wonder who she can trust in a world where enemies are behind every corner.
