Gemma Jane,
Sheltered all her life and now abandoned by the recent death of her father, she has only one name and place to turn to, the disagreeable Mr Hayes of Ever Green; the man who her father entrusted her to.

How does one adjust to her new life of hardships and duties when all she'd known was books, musicals and the bustle of the city? Sentiment Hill is miles out the way of the nearest capital and though the country promises the life of serenity and solitude, a quiet life is hard to come by under the scrutiny and temper that is of the master of the house and it's occupants who are already comfortably settled in their own routines, including her own dear cousin.

She must work and battle her way through this existence that is now hers, and join the livelihood of the rest of the servants in the Ever Green estate whilst proving herself to Master Hayes and the rest. Thrown into this new life, Gemma is introduced to a world she never knew, and by the time she comes out the other side, she is enthralled by the land of the gulleys and more so, the young master.
