"Ikakasal kayo sa isa't isa pagkatapos niyong mag aral, mga anak. Hindi ba masaya iyon?" Nakangiting sabi ni Victor, ama ni Vernon.
Nagulat ang lahat. Si Vernon ay piniling wag magpakita ng kahit anong emosyon habang tahimik na nakikiramdam.
Sa kabilang banda, Si Julia ay parang nanigas sa kanyang kinauupuan. Nasasaktan siya sa mga pangyayari. At dahil hindi makatiis, tumayo ang dalaga at sinabi ang nararamdaman.
"Hindi po ako papayag, Ma, Pa. Tito at Tita. Pasensya na po." Nakayukong sabi ni Julia.
"Bakit naman anak, hindi ba mahal mo naman ang anak namin na si Vernon?" Tanong sa kanya ni Erica, ang nanay ni Vernon.
Habang kinakabahan na ang dalaga, si Vernon ay patuloy lamang ang pagkain. Pilit pinararating na wala siyang pakialam sa nangyayari.
"Hindi po Tita. Nagkakamali po kayo. Hindi ko po mahal ang anak ninyo." Lakas loob na sinabi ni Julia sabay talikod sa lugar na iyon.
