She is sixteen during the American Revolution.

Just turned a woman and she has to be kicked out of her home by the British.

Her mother is in Italy and her father is dead. What is she to do with her vulnerable life? She has no money, no shelter, and hardly any food or clothes. She is a peasant among the people, but would anyone help her?

Saved by a strikingly handsome Native American, he sympathizes with her and lets the young woman live with him until she is able to work again, save up money, and live on her own once more. She has mixed feelings when he is around her. All her life she's been told that the Natives are tricksters, heathens, and vulgar, but this man was quite the opposite. Should she trust him, or should she be skeptical? Tensions build up between the two eventually. Will she be kicked out into the wild frontier again?

Recommended age: 16 and up.

I've heard of his kind before in my tribe as they told stories by the fire of the white man. Father always told me to never engage with a white man to protect myself, seeing as I was the tribe's so-called 'princess', even if I was a boy. This was the first time I've seen a white man before. I could tell he was a white man because of how he looked with the storied my tribe tells. He had blonde hair that was tied behind his head, white skin unlike me and my tribe's tan ones, and the most intriguing blue eyes I've ever seen. I've never seen blue eyes. Everyone in my tribe all had brown eyes. Although he wielding a long gun that he carried over his back, a metal hat over his head, I couldn't find it in me to feel frightened. He surely didn't have a spear or knife with him unlike our hunting weapons in my tribe. My squirrel companion waved his arm over my face as if telling me to avert my eyes away from the white man, but I placed him somewhere on a higher branch above me. I was fascinated with the white man. No, attracted was a better word. I needed to... meet him in person. However, she was smarter than that, and saw that coming. She travels with Rune, a man who saved her life during the previous days battle, reluctantly. Rune is a secret assassin for Queen Eiva, who has sent him on a mission to find out about this upcoming war, threatened by a group called the Pandoreos. He has his own secrets that not even the queen knows, however, Dakota, a wolf who can speak to Erin, can tell he's hiding something. Erin eventually struggles with her feelings toward Rune. When the threat of the Pandoreos worsens, Rune is called back to queen Eiva. Rune commands Erin to travel with Kier, a man who has a special hatred for these Pandoreos, and warn Queen Beatrice, and King Cecerion about the upcoming war, in hope for an alliance with Queen Eiva. That is, if the humans can stay one step ahead of the Pandoreos.
