Sequel of Rumors of War. Book Two of Five. Set during The Avengers. .•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•. "That's something else you've missed while being a capscicle," I reply, crossing my arms over my uniform. "Good and evil, right and wrong, they're not so easy to tell apart nowadays. The past century has taught the bad guys to appear well intentional, and the good guys have become more like Fury. That man walks the line between chaos and order. He does it for his right reason, but..." I shake my head. "Good is subjective these days." "Not today," Steve says, turning to look at me. "Today we have to deal with this single problem: Loki." .•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•. She was a teacher, then a soldier, then a hero. Now she's a fugitive. She had a best friend and a fiancé before the war, a brother and a husband during the war, and neither when the war ended. It's been almost 70 years since Steve and Bucky died in World War II, and Emma has spent her immortal days helping people, through both legal and illegal means. She's done many things, moved around the world, taken on new identities, become the vigilante known as Lady Justice. But one thing she never expected to happen was Steve to return from the dead. But, like always, the world keeps making mistakes that lead to the innocent paying the price. This time, the mischief god, Loki, is determined to rule the Earth. Together with the newly-formed Avengers, Emma Jane Barnes must put an end to his reign of terror and save the world...again. But this time, she's trying to make up for what she did in the late 20th century. She's trying to earn back the mantel of Lady Liberty. Mischief's Match

87 parts Complete Mature

*mature for violence An immortal with extraordinary powers never expected her life to unravel after an encounter with the Avengers. Having lived for centuries, she had seen it all-but nothing could prepare her for the disarray of living under the same roof as the Avengers. As chaos and conflict follow the team wherever they go, she finds herself reluctantly involved in their battles and struggles, caught between her own desire for peace and the constant whirlwind of heroism. But things take an unexpected turn when Loki, the God of Mischief, is brought into the fold, living under strict supervision at the Avengers' compound. Once their bitter enemy, now a prisoner and "rehabilitant" of sorts, Loki is as dangerous as he is charming. Despite her initial wariness, the immortal and Loki find themselves crossing paths more often than either would like. The tension between them, at first subtle and barely noticeable, quickly becomes a constant source of friction, and despite their differences, a begrudging respect begins to form. In a world that never seems to slow down, their evolving dynamic becomes one of the more unpredictable-and oddly comforting-elements of their new lives. But even as they learn to tolerate one another, they'll both have to confront what it means to trust again-and whether they can find a way to coexist without the world falling apart around them.
