Merpati is Malaysian for dove and Cempaka is Malaysian for flower however in this story they are names of the protagonists.

This is a short story that highlights the sad mentality of many people all over the world and the struggles that many women in those communities have to face. Misogyny can be found and institutionalized everywhere even in the most developed places and when it is normalized by the masses some small "merpati" cannot fly free.

Another message is that we should all have the choice to live your life however you want to. Despite your choice being conventional or unconventional, we need to fight for the right to make that choice for ourselves.

"I'm tough, I'm ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay"
