Vincent Whites is a 27-year-old English Professor who moved back to his small home town to fill in a temporary position as a favor from his old principal. As he begins teaching, there is one student in particular who he finds a bit more interesting than the rest: Athena Vids. She hardly speaks in class, is tardy every day, and rarely does her classwork, but when it comes to writing, she excels. Her raw talent captures Vincent's attention, but she refuses to be more than a regular student. Vincent then becomes ambitious to help her reach her potential. As their relationship builds over time, they both deal with whispers of their relationship. The two help one another see life in a more positive and mature manner with the painstaking burden of what a small town would do to a relationship as such. Along with the rumors, they both deal with their family struggles. Failing relationships, deaths, and the attempts to juggle everything in their lives at once takes a toll for both. Both Vincent and Athena realize that they need one another, not romantically, but spiritually and mentally. --- A family doesn't end in blood; it ends with love.
