I'm Jay, and this is my story, but it's also Scarlet's story. As children, we see our mothers as mothers, and we don't consider that they had lives before us, that they, too, were once young.

I never gave the life my mother had before I was born a thought. Not even when I discovered her sitting on her favorite rocking chair, blood everywhere. Not when I ended up on the streets, but there comes a moment in our lives when everything falls into place, and you learn to see your parents as people.
Unraveling the threads of Scarlet's life taught me more about myself than I could ever imagine when the past crossed paths with the present, and I learned the truth of who I am, but more importantly, who she had been.

Scarlet had once been Samantha Beck, and the two women were as different as night and day, but they were both her.
