When the world was burnt by the sun some groups of people were ready and build special compounds called Bases. They set bases up all over the globe and waited for the fire of the sun. When it came they hadn't anticipated the extent of solar power. Their power sources were ruined and they knew that they wouldn't survive long without them. Some people left to take their chances in the new wild but those who were left spent hours pondering solutions as the power dwindled and the life-force faded. Only when the people who were left out to face the sun found the bases did they find a solution. The outsiders were deranged and barely human, changed by the radiation of the sun, they were taken into the bases and were sedated and hooked up to the power source. For years the bases thrived under stolen energy. Highest rank 778 in Science Fiction.

It is a time without hope. Each day, the newspaper columns display a single list of the names of those who gave their lives to take a minuscule amount of territory. Since when did 100 lives become worth 100 meters ? Since when did 100 lives become known as a 100 rifles ? How much he would give to feel the sun on his skin one last time, to breathe in the air of the surface without falling dead due to the toxic gases. Before, it seemed like humanity was promised to the stars, unbound by any limits with the wonders of technology! Now all that is left for their forsaken souls is an eternity spent underground, meaninglessly fighting for the most basic ressources. Our once so wise race, so cultured, so rich and so beautiful, now reduced to an ignorant and militaristic state. a population of sheeps blindly following the diktats of a dystopian society lead only by the church and monarchy. Our now decrepit race has retreated into the shadows of the underground, throwing waves of the men and woman that were supposed to help us rebuild our future at each other in a parody of a noble war. These are humanity's last gasps.

The ice deep in the north has melted to reveal a new world hidden under the ice. It holds vegetation and animals that seem unworldly when compared to ours, but hidden in the deepest part of this world is another cave with the oldest surviving strains of an ancient bacteria capable of taking host of dead creatures and reanimating them into beasts worse than before. This strain had grown weak over the ages and was nearly extinct, but the human immune system, never being exposed to this, caused the strain to thrive inside its new unexpecting host and spreads out to the world. It starts small, just a speck on the hands of a few people, but soon, it spreads to door handles, pens, books, chairs, things like that. It continues spreading and now has infected its first corpse, the remains of an ant. This new creature comes and spreads to that ant's nest and then to the animals that eat them. Before less than a month passed, the virus had spread to a graveyard in the hidden grottos of the Yukon. This virus, now able to think from the new minds of fresh bodies, can strategize. In only another week, the epidemic had spread to the northern edge of the United States. Spreading further and further in, people began to notice this strange happening. From people disappearing to entire towns popping out of existence, the bacteria continued to spread. To keep order, the governments had those who disappeared erased from existence, but it wasn't enough. The takeover of those long gone happened in less than three weeks and society collapsed. Spreading overseas, it began its removal of life in Europe, but that's a story for another day. We now come to those few remaining settlements in the collapsed U.S, now called The Crumbled Land. What does this new land hold hidden deep in the remnants of its former glory?
