Para algunos críticos es una de las comedias más maduras y trabajadas de Shakespeare,  y para otros una obra falta de  talento, considerando el genio del autor.
De todas formas es una obra ampliamente representada, una comedia de fingimientos, disfraces, versos galantes, canciones pastoriles y juegos de promiscuidad. 
El gran tema sobre el que gira es el amor, que se desarrolla libre al contacto con la Naturaleza bienhechora. El título se refiere a su carácter de obra escrita para satisfacer al espectador.
El argumento es una adaptación escénica burlesca de Rosalinda: El legado dorado de Euphes (1590), un romance de Thomas Lodge, escritor inglés contemporáneo de Shakespeare, que lo compuso en un viaje a Canarias.All Rights Reserved
