Hello, my name is Vanessa Thompson. I live on the corner of Maple and Edison Street, in apartment 6. I live with my seven obnoxious brothers and my drug and alcohol addict mother if I could call her that name anymore. Our apartment has four leaky windows, one rusty water heater, and a family of roaches who can make good company sometimes. Nothing interesting ever happens around here. It's the same old thing every day. Wake up, go to school, come home, do homework, eat dinner, go to bed, and repeat. My schedule only changes on Saturday and Sunday (just subtract school) and that's it. It's always overcast in Goodnoe Hills, Klickitat County, WA. My family, along with a few other people, are the only ones who live here. The only time I get out of our old apartment is when I walk to school or do other things that I'm not supposed to do. I have no friends. Well, that's it. It is a bit awkward writing a journal of all my personal thoughts, but my guidance teacher said it would help me, I just hope my brothers don't get a hold of this.

Ella is falling apart trying to live a "perfect" high school life. Then she meets Ren, who can see past her scars. Suddenly perfection isn't her only option. ***** Ella Volkov is a gifted music student, but she's depressed and starting to crack under the pressure of high school. Her overbearing father won't even let her choose what instrument she plays. Then she finds herself alone at a party with Ren, her best friend's crush. She'd always thought he was rude, but after that night he's all Ella can think about. Now she's trapped. If Ella dates Ren, it will ruin her friendship with Jenny. But if she stays true to Jenny, she's losing the one person who can see past her scars. It's up to Ella to decide if she will forge her own path, or stay in the "perfect" box designed for her...
