"You know I cannot commit such atrocity my love. I cannot sleep with anothers wife." Tomori stressed, looking away as she moved to untie her once white wrapper. It was now brown and dirty, showing all she had to suffer just to make sure there was no stain of blood on it. Brown and black was allowed, but not red. Not yet. "I would rather die than be called the wife of that animal." She hissed. "Yet you are his wife anyways, and until we leave his territory, you would always be his wife." He replied. "My lord, I'm beginning to think that you don't want me any more." Abebi sniffles and he freezes in discomfort. "My loyalties have been sworn to the king since I became a warrior." "You had better choose one, your loyalties to your king, or your loyalty to me." ... The prophecy was simple, only Abebi could give the aged king a son, only she could bear the heir to the throne. Thrown into a marriage she despised, Abebi runs away with her lover, the head warrior of the village, in search of refuge and another life. But fate has other plans, as the king is not ready to have his only chance of having a son slip through his fingers. Cue bloodshed and war, it's a fight of survival, and a quest for freedom. ... For Tomori to finally get his wife, he must pay the highest bride price. He must pay with his life. For every love story comes with a price. ... Captive
In a city where chaos runs deep and power speaks louder than justice, Major General Damola Olowe-feared, revered, and known simply as the Commander-rules Lagos's criminal underworld with a soldier's discipline and ruthlessness. His word is law. His presence, a warning. Backed by elite troops and an iron code of honor, Damola is the last line of order in a state slowly tilting into anarchy. But when a high-stakes raid ends in betrayal, an ambush leaves him bloodied and alone, and five of his own men try to assassinate him in transit, everything shifts. He survives by sheer will-and the unexpected help of a 'frightened' stranger. Damola gives him one thing in return: a favor. A single, open-ended promise. Three years later, the stranger returns-not for money, not for power, but with a request that will dismantle everything Damola has built. He wants Damola to protect his quiet, delicate younger sister, Adunni, while he travels abroad. The Commander refuses-until the debt is called in. What begins as a reluctant favor becomes a war of shadows, as Damola finds himself caught between growing feelings for Adunni and suspicions he can't ignore. Because Adunni isn't just innocent. She's a pawn. A spy planted to bring him down. And behind her is a man with blood on his hands-and a plan that could end the Commander's reign for good. But Damola didn't rise to power by playing fair and he was ready to fight until the very end. He took them down before, he could do it again. He would. Obey the Commander-or be destroyed.
