We both would do anything for each other. A divorce between our parents tear us apart, having Serena leave to Kalos while I stayed behind to take care of our dad in Sinnoh Years later, I grew up in a bad environment during my teenage years, where I learned how to toughen up and become aggressive towards anyone. A simple death glare was enough to make anyone cower. Ash has to find himself during his journey in order to be able to take on everything in his way, from his best friend Calem to his Arch Rival Damian... To even his own father. Half Ash and half Alain in the character of Ash Ketchum, there will be a good combination between battle styles and a good amount of combinations between overall personality and maturity.
