He took Kalvin's offered hand, letting the elder lead him over to the Thames River. For approximately ten minutes, the two strolled alongside the clear water. As they did so, they spoke about anything and everything. About William's parents' reaction to the "gay news headline of the year" (as Kalvin called it), to the rising crime rates, and even of possibilities for the future. By the time Kalvin stopped walking, they had reached the center of the London Bridge. William smiled, taking in the sights of his beloved city in the night. While he could not see the stars, he was able to take in the glowing London Tower, the ever-active Tower Bridge, and the hundreds of people who resided in the old, historic city. It was here, he realized later on, that his life had been changed forever.
