"Why did you pay so much money for a date with me?" He looked at me with something in his eyes I couldn't quite identify. Something so heated that it probably would've scared me if it hadn't been so... tender.

"Because, Adella," he said, and the sound of my name, especially my full name, from his lips drove a shiver down my spine. "I've been saving up."
-----------------------
Adella Mitchum, student body president, knew from her freshman year that she'd be auctioned off like a prize mare as part of the annual Seniors' Date Auction. However, she always thought that she would go for a cool $25 by one of her pitying friends.

She never thought she'd set the school's record for highest bid.

Who's her date? One Carter Morin, quarterback of the football team, Golden Boy of the school, and player of the unsuspecting women of Benton Private Academy.

Needless to say, she isn't thrilled.

Still, when he saves her from a date with her stalker ex-boyfriend Thomas, she figures the least she can do is try.
